Gastroscopy
A gastroscopy looks at the oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small bowel, which is also known as the small intestine. Miss Gupta may recommend the procedure to you to investigate persistent abdominal pain, diagnose conditions such as stomach ulcers or treat non-cancerous growths called polyps.
A gastroscopy usually only takes around 15 minutes to complete and is often carried out in an outpatient clinic using a local anaesthetic throat spray, although a sedative can also be used.
Miss Gupta will explain the results of the examination fully with you once it is complete.
